Media Literacy Level

This Journalism class has had a great impact on my media literacy; I knew some about the Media but nothing compared to what I know now.

Now I know history of different types of media, how they started and how each developed; also, the controversies were very interesting to me, I really enjoyed reading those sections the most. It was also very nice the way the textbook listed all the career positions available in each media department and its duties.

I don't view media much differently than before, except for the fact that I am a bit wiser on the subject overall.

My understanding of media impacts like the first amendment has changed, mainly because before I just had a vague idea or notion about what the first amendment meant. Now I know that it is strongly referred to in all media ever invented.

I have included here in my blog a video that reflects subjects learned in this class; for example: the 1st Amendment and media commercial tactics.

Elvis Presley Enterprises/Copyright

According to New York CBS/AP, there are Copyright lawsuits being filed against men in Florida and England by Elvis Presley Enterprises; they are attempting to stop the selling of a DVD and CD box set.

 • One of the men's name is Joseph Pirzada, who sold the above mentioned material that included recordings and footage of Elvis Presley's performances.
 • Elvis Presley Enterprises, said that the box set includes footage from a 1977 television special called "Elvis in Concert" and raw footage from Elvis in Omaha, Neb., and Rapid City, S.D, Which they claim copyright ownership

No matter how it may look, that a large company such as Elvis Presley Enterprises files a law suit against someone who is probably just trying to make a living, the law is the law! and therefore, it was placed to be followed and to be imposed.

WoW, Propaganda!

I happen to find a very good and clever propaganda commercial for Pepsi, from the 80's on you tube. Its a commercial with Michael Jackson in it singing a song inviting all to join the next generation. It uses two propaganda techniques, which are:

 • Bandwagon - attempt to persuade the target audience to join in and take the course of action that "everyone else is taking." (Wikipedia.com) The song and the invitation on the commercial to join the next generation of Pepsi drinkers clearly uses this method of propaganda as well as the join the crowd technique, by being very persuasive.
 • Beautiful people- the type of propaganda that deals with famous people or depicts attractive, happy people. (Wikipedia.com) This is another propaganda technique that this commercial uses, by including Michael Jackson. Clearly this famous singer gave them great outcomes.

Internet Use, How?

I have used the Internet for all: shopping, gaming and dating.

 • shopping, I enjoy it and do it occasionally. I shop in various store website like: Old Navy, Macy's, EBay and some others. I have seen my self get carried away and spending hours shopping at times; it can be very entertaining. Although I do prefer to shop in person.

 • Gaming I have done very little of online. I'm not sure why; games never really interest me, I think I would play if I had extra time and I don't have much of it.

 • Dating I have done in the past, chatting online etc. This activity I use to take sometimes all day at. I loved my computer especialy because I got to talk to boy with it. I used to stay hours chatting. I think it was like a phase that went away with time.

I suppose I did have an addiction at one time with dating in the Internet and as I mentioned above it was a phase that went away on its own. I don't think it really affected my life negatively, I fact it kept me busy and entertained and safe because I was always home in my bedroom.

At the time the site of choice was AOL Chat rooms. not sure they currently exist now, there are probably others similar to them like http://messages.yahoo.com/

Moviesssss!

My favorite recent movie is: Tron Legacy.http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10011582-TRON_legacy/
Tron: Legacy in Disney Digital 3DI actually decided to go see this movie because of my son. It probably wouldn't have been my first choice. Never the less, I am glad I saw this movie, I think it had great graphics; the story was really unique, the fact that humans went inside the game, and the game had its own world. It was a trip of a movie; I recommend it for an experience outside of this world!

Total Recall My favorite all times movie would have to be Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger. We actually owned it in VHS when I was a teenager, then I purchased it in DVD. This movie is a great action syfy movie. I've lost count how many times I have seen this movie, I can watch it over and over and I never get tired of it, its great. Want to see a great action flick? watch Total Recall http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/total_recall/
