Books of Influence?

I have read books throughout my life time, however, not as many as I would have wished I had. I really value books and the knowledge one can obtain from them. We live in a society in which 'knowlege is power' and to choose not to read is to choose to be ignorant.

Product DetailsAnn Frank The Diary of a Young Girl
I read this book at around 15 years old.The story of what the Jews went trough was all extremely interesting to me, and to read about a girl who kept a diary during this time was very compelling. Of course it was also sad to know that she was captured and then died in a concentration camp away from her family. Made me realize how grateful I should be.

The Bible is a book I treasure most of all, for  the simple fact that I consider it to be the word of God in script. This is the most influential book I have read and will continue to be throughout my life. I continue to learn from it day after day, its incredible but a true reality.  It has changed my life in many ways, for the better.  http://www.bibles.com/

His Bright Light: The Story of Nick Traina By Danielle Steel
This book I have read recently, it was recommended to me by an aunt. I have read in the past books by Danielle Steel, a great writer if I may say;  which was one of the reasons I did not hesitate to read this biography/autobiography about the author's son and his struggle with Manic Depression. This book was not only interesting but also educational, I was able to learn what it is to cope with a mental illness. He ended his life tragically in suicide.

I plan to read a lot more books in my life span. Until I do I have these influential books in my list, perhaps you might be interested in one or two.

MEDIA IMPACT

After reading chapter 2 about the impact media has on society, I can think of a time when someone blamed the cunduct of a child on the media. This particular acquaintance was telling me how her nephews always wanted to play violently and rough with her children which she disapproved of.  She said "its because of the type of cartoons they watch it teaches them that violence is okay"

So she had an opinion of what media can do to a child and therefore she carefully chooses what her children of 7, 5, and 2 watch on television.

Media Autobiography

My name is crystal and I am a 26 year old student at De Anza College in Cupertino CA, I am returning after almost 8 years, I plan to stay and earn my AA at De Anza. My major is still undecided, however I plan to have my mind set by next quarter since I am taking various courses this quarter to help with the decision.
I will talk about my background if any, with the following media: Books, Newspapers, Magazines, Movies, Recordings, Radio, Television and the Internet.

  1. BOOKS - Ever since I could remember I enjoyed reading books; I like informational books of various subjects for example: books on alcoholism, mental disorders etc., I also occasionally enjoy reading love novels; like novel's by Danielle Steel. The book I have cherished the most for the past four year is the Bible; which has all that interest me in books and more.
  2. NEWSPAPERS - News papers I don't read at all unless the Penny saver counts as one. I can probably count the times I have read it in my life time. First because it doesn't interest me to read and get my fingers dirty, not to mention the trouble of turning such big pages. The way I feel is: why bother with the newspaper when there is lots of other easier ways to see the news.
  3. MAGAZINE - magazines I read occasionally. like when I am waiting for a hair cut, or working out at the gym. I don't buy any. I think to buy a magazine is to waste your money. and at this time in my life, money cannot and should not be wasted.
  4. MOVIES - This I do love. I can enjoy all kinds of movies; whet er its an action movie or a drama, I enjoy them all. I also watch a lot of movies both home and at the theater. I find them to be very entertaining and useful when you need a break.
  5. RECORDINGS - I currently own Cd's and DVDs, I also have an mp3 player. Recording are quiet neat if I may say. I have used recording all my life.
  6. RADIO - radio I have heard in the past and often. but recently I don't listen to the radio at all. My music interest have changed and I prefer to use my recording media when I want to listen to music.
  7. TELEVISION - This media is the one I probably use the most; I am not particularly proud. I have to tell my self not to watch to much of it. I honestly think TV wastes a lot of people's time. The reason being because it is so entertaining. In my opinion, TV should be watched with moderation and dicipline.
  8. INTERNET - This media source is second on my most used. Of course back in my growing up days it wasn't, but since about three years till now it is. I find the Internet to be very resourceful and of course also very entertaining.

All of the above mentioned media sources were also a part of my life while growing up except for maybe the newspaper, and the Internet which was also used very little.
